The figurine was buried alongside other objects made of precious metal in a storeroom just inside the city gate in an occupation level dated to the end of the Middle Bronze Age (16<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> century BCE). The crown worn by the figurine suggests it is a representation of a goddess, perhaps Asherah or Astarte (Ashtoret). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Judges 2 identifies Astarte as one of the Canaanite gods whom the Israelites worshipped during the period of the
