  1. Now, how did that happen<\/span><\/i>? Why did the tribe of Simeon receive a portion inside the tribe of Judah? What happened to the partition plan of the previous chapter? Verse 9 proposes a partial answer, but see also the views of commentators and researchers.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Fortified towns<\/span><\/i>. In the portion of Naftali, in addition to regular towns, the text notes \u201cIts fortified towns were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Chinnereth\u2026\u201d (verse 35), which remain a puzzle.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Beit Shemesh – Many Houses of Suns<\/span><\/i>. There\u2019s one in Issachar (verse 22), one in Naftali (verse 38) and an Ir Shemesh in Dan (verse 41).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Dan wanders from the center to the north<\/em>. Verse 47 tells a shortened version of a story that will be told in greater detail in another 23 chapters (Judges 18). The Danites moved north to the region of the sources of the Jordan, and there conquered Leshem (=La\u2019ish). \u201cSo the Danites migrated and made war on Leshem. They captured it and put it to the sword; they took possession of it and settled in it. And they changed the name of Leshem to Dan, after their ancestor Dan.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. At the command of the Lord.<\/span><\/i> Everything, actually. Even Joshua\u2019s personal portion. Joshua requested. God granted. And the Israelites confirmed: “\u2026the Israelites gave a portion in their midst to Joshua son of Nun. At the command of the LORD they gave him the town that he asked for, Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim\u2026”<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
