Who doubts them, and who believes? Who ends up making the covenant with them? Who solves the problems that was created? There\u2019s more than one answer here.\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Oath and wrath<\/em>: According to the words of the chieftains (v. 19), it is impossible to break the \u00a0covenant with the Gibeonites, because it was made under oath. Breaking a solemn oath is liable to bring down God\u2019s wrath upon them. Spoiler: In another 88 chapters, and a few generations (II Sam ch 21), somebody will break the oath. And there will be wrath. But in the meantime, peace reigns between Israel and Gibeon.\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>The cities of the Gibeonites<\/em>: Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim (v. 17) are situated north-west of Jerusalem. The pact with the Gibeonites thus creates an cooperative enclave between the south of the country and the north. How does this affect the story? Wait until the next chapter to find out.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
