\u201cI will raise up for them a prophet like yourself, from among their brethren, and I will put My words in his mouth\u201d (Deuteronomy 18:18)<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Moses encountered a bush ablaze, whose light<\/span>
\n<\/span>Bestowed upon the shepherd speech and sight;<\/span>
\n<\/span>The bush brought forth a spark that would ignite<\/span>
\n<\/span>An inner fire inside the man; he heard<\/span>
\n<\/span>A voice within a voice that uttered the Word<\/span>
\n<\/span>Of God, which fluttered and hovered like a bird.<\/span><\/p>\n

Samuel often dreamt he saw a bird<\/span>
\n<\/span>Flying and gliding upward toward a light.<\/span>
\n<\/span>But once, the little boy awoke and heard<\/span>
\n<\/span>A voice that called his name; the voice\u2019s word<\/span>
\n<\/span>Transformed into a candle that could ignite<\/span>
\n<\/span>The failing lamp of God, and grant him sight. <\/span><\/p>\n

Elijah inside the cave had lost his sight,<\/span>
\n<\/span>His sense of hearing and his hope; yet the Word<\/span>
\n<\/span>Returned in a still small voice that lit the light<\/span>
\n<\/span>Of faith, that faith which once had brought a bird<\/span>
\n<\/span>To feed him meat and bread; the voice he heard<\/span>
\n<\/span>Extinguished fires that flames of doubt ignite. <\/span><\/p>\n

Isaiah found the words which would ignite<\/span>
\n<\/span>Belief and trust that Zion, like a bird,<\/span>
\n<\/span>Should surely fly again, taught by the Word<\/span>
\n<\/span>Of God to find its nest and home; the light<\/span>
\n<\/span>Enkindled by his words gave blind slaves sight<\/span>
\n<\/span>And hope to hear the bird they once had heard. <\/span><\/p>\n

Jeremiah cried, lamented, mourned; he heard<\/span>
\n<\/span>Too well that Word of God whose sparks ignite<\/span>
\n<\/span>A fire that scorches every tree and bird,<\/span>
\n<\/span>A fire which burns a prophet\u2019s throat and sight,<\/span>
\n<\/span>A fire all heat and flame without the light,<\/span>
\n<\/span>A fire which singes every human word. <\/span><\/p>\n

Ezekiel received in awe the Word<\/span>
\n<\/span>Of God, and bowed in the valley when he heard<\/span>
\n<\/span>Dry bones rattle; he trembled at the sight<\/span>
\n<\/span>Of flesh and skin; he watched his words ignite<\/span>
\n<\/span>The spark of life within the risen bird<\/span>
\n<\/span>Of Zion, a phoenix soaring toward the light.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Messiah waits for God\u2019s Word to ignite<\/span>
\n<\/span>White flames, the sign for a bird to bring him sight.<\/span>
\n<\/span>If only prophets heard where shines his light!<\/span><\/p>\n
