\u201cAnd you shall rejoice in your festival\u2026. \u00a0Seven days shall you celebrate before the Lord your God in the place which the Lord will choose, and the Lord your God will bless you in all your increase and in all the work of your hands; and you shall have nothing but joy.\u201d (Deuteronomy 16:14-15)<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>And the beggar said, \u2018Here I am. \u00a0I have come to your wedding \u2026<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>

The violin<\/span>
\n<\/span>Played by the handless beggar<\/span>
\n<\/span>Weaves melody to melody;<\/span>
\n<\/span>The deaf beggar claps his hands to their tunes<\/span>
\n<\/span>As in a deep bass voice the stutterer sings:<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cJoin the dance.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

The clarinet<\/span>
\n<\/span>Played by the beggar with the crooked neck<\/span>
\n<\/span>Pulls the groom into the circle;<\/span>
\n<\/span>The hunchback lifts the groom onto his shoulders<\/span>
\n<\/span>And swirls and whirls and twirls and twists<\/span>
\n<\/span>As in a deep bass voice the stutterer sings:<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cJoin the dance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The blind beggar points out to the bride<\/span>
\n<\/span>Her chair in the middle of the circle;<\/span>
\n<\/span>The beggar without feet jumps and somersaults and cartwheels<\/span>
\n<\/span>In front of her; she leans back in her chair and laughs;<\/span>
\n<\/span>The groom on the hunchback\u2019s shoulders<\/span>
\n<\/span>Stretches out his arms and calls out:<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cCome my beloved, come my bride;\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>The beggars raise the bride\u2019s chair;<\/span>
\n<\/span>She clasps his hand;<\/span>
\n<\/span>They gaze at each other;<\/span>
\n<\/span>Around and around the dancers turn and spin;<\/span>
\n<\/span>Groom and bride<\/span>
\n<\/span>Join the dance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bride and groom,<\/span>
\n<\/span>Lost princess and king\u2019s son,<\/span>
\n<\/span>Violin and clarinet,<\/span>
\n<\/span>Canopy of white veil and striped <\/span>tallit<\/span><\/i>,<\/span>
\n<\/span>Circle of dancers, beggars in tatters<\/span>
\n<\/span>And a deep bass voice \u2014<\/span>
\n<\/span>All one magnet<\/span>
\n<\/span>Pulling us in;<\/span>
\n<\/span>We too place our hands on the shoulders of beggars;<\/span>
\n<\/span>We too, now wedding guests, hear the music;<\/span>
\n<\/span>We too, now closing our eyes,<\/span>
\n<\/span>Join the dance.<\/span><\/p>\n
