{"id":48195,"date":"2019-01-26T23:54:24","date_gmt":"2019-01-26T21:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/?p=48195"},"modified":"2022-08-21T12:52:53","modified_gmt":"2022-08-21T09:52:53","slug":"great-is-peace-then-and-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/en\/great-is-peace-then-and-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Is Peace \u2013 Then And Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[281],"tags":[363,409],"acf":{"old_id":"48195","type":"no","iframe":"","writer":33877,"related_cahpter":"142","type_929":"2","show_author_image":false,"old_create_date":"","old_url":"","post_main_content":{"description":"The one vessel that holds a blessing is Peace","content":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our chapter includes the dramatic story of Pinchas, the grandson of Aaron the first High Priest who, enraged at the whoring of the Israelites, impaled on his spear Zimri, a Prince of the Tribe of Shimon, and Cosbi, the daughter of the head of the Midianites (Numbers 25:7-15). \u00a0As a reward for his zealousness, by which he halted the plague sent as punishment, God says of Pinhas: \u201cBehold, I give unto him My covenant of Peace (<em>briti shalom<\/em>)\u201d (verse 12). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Midrash (Numbers Rabbah 21:1 and parallels) utilizes this verse as a basis for a remarkable paean to Peace: \u201cGreat is Peace &#8212; the covenant given by God to Pinhas! For the world is only sustained by Peace. And the whole Torah is Peace, as it says: \u201cHer ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are Peace\u201d (Proverbs 3:17). When a person comes back from a journey, he is greeted by asking after his \u201cPeace\u201d (i.e. \u201cwell-being\u201d &#8212; <em>mah shelomkha<\/em>?). To this day, in the morning and in the evening one asks after a person&#8217;s \u201cPeace\u201d. Our Hashkivenu prayer on Shabbat in the evening concludes with the blessing: \u201cBlessed are You, O Lord, Who spreads a tabernacle of Peace over us and over all of His People Israel and over Jerusalem\u201d. The Amidah Prayer (Shemoneh \u2018Esreh) concludes with the \u201cBlessing of Peace\u201d: \u201cBlessed are You, O Lord, Who blesses His people Israel with Peace\u201d. And the priestly benediction concludes with Peace: \u201cMay the Lord bestow His favor upon you and grant you Peace!\u201d (Numbers 6:26). \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rabbi Simeon ben Halafta said: The one vessel that holds a blessing is Peace, as it says: \u201cThe Lord will give strength unto His people. The Lord will bless his people with Peace\u201d (Psalms 29:11).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>image:
