“I see it, but not now, I behold it, but not soon \u2026.” (Numbers 24:17)<\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah; although he tarries, nonetheless, I wait for him day by day<\/span>.” <\/span><\/em>
\n<\/span>-from the “<\/span>Ani Ma’amin<\/span><\/i>” (“I Believe”), a formulation written in the fifteenth century of the Thirteen Principles of Jewish Faith, according to R. Moses Maimonides (1135-1204)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although he tarries, leaving us to grieve<\/span>
\n<\/span>Our brother’s death and dig our sister’s grave<\/span>
\n<\/span>With broken shovels in a darkened cave,<\/span>
\n<\/span>The Messiah will come one day, I believe.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Will eyes detect his shadow, ears perceive<\/span>
\n<\/span>The echo of his name? \u00a0Will mourners shave<\/span>
\n<\/span>Their beards one day, believing he can save<\/span>
\n<\/span>Adam’s daughters and all the sons of Eve?<\/span><\/p>\n

Soon the Messiah will arrive \u2014 he must! \u2014<\/span>
\n<\/span>And when he does, he’ll teach us how to play<\/span>
\n<\/span>With hissing snakes whose fangs no longer bite,<\/span>
\n<\/span>With serpents that have ceased to eat the dust<\/span>
\n<\/span>Of sin; in faithfulness he’ll bring, one day,<\/span>
\n<\/span>Fresh fruit from Eden’s tree of life and
