\nin the air, as if
\na huge magnet above,
\na huge magnet below,
\nkeep it in perfect perpetual balance; a photographed eagle, preserved
\nin a photographed desert sky would budge
\nno less,
\nno more;<\/p>\n

until<\/p>\n

its dark eye shifts a thousandth of an inch, focusing
\n<\/span>on a rabbit or mouse or even snake slithering unaware from rock to rock.<\/span><\/p>\n

suddenly
\nIt<\/p>\n

Strikes.<\/p>\n

the Word of God
\nhovers
\nbeyond our perception
\nlike a radio transmission broadcast from Somewhere, amidst the static
\ndesperately seeking a receiver to pick up its message;
\nundetected even by the soul\u2019s ear<\/p>\n

until<\/span><\/p>\n

the chosen one is focused: man or woman; farmer or kohen; child
\nhalf-asleep in his bed, totally unprepared,
\nor aged prophet meditating in devout readiness after years of anticipation;<\/p>\n

suddenly
\nIt<\/p>\n

Strikes.<\/p>\n
