“And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Command the Children of Israel to bring you pure oil of beaten olives for the light, in order to maintain an eternal light.'” (Leviticus 24:1-2)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

O Lord of light, the moment we awake
\n<\/span>We run to open shutters, as we wait
\n<\/span>To see the coming dawn eliminate
\n<\/span>The darkness of our night. But no \u2014 the break
\n<\/span>Of day is but a tiny, shallow lake
\n<\/span>Of light that seas of blackness inundate
\n<\/span>And overwhelm; no sunrays terminate
\n<\/span>The shadows, Lord, the shadows of the snake.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

When will illumination come? Our eyes
\n<\/span>Perceive no stars or comets in the sky,
\n<\/span>While here on earth, we’re blinded by the night.
\n<\/span>The snake has spread its venom with its lies
\n<\/span>That in the shadows, all God’s candles die.
\n<\/span>O when will You proclaim, “Let there be light!”<\/span><\/p>\n
