What You command,
\nI must obey;
\nIf this Your will \u2014
\nYour will be done.<\/p>\n

And if Your voice
\nLeaves me no choice,
\nBut to rip out my liver,
\nKidney or spleen;
\nIf this Your will \u2014
\nYour will be done.<\/p>\n

According to Your plan,
\nTo be a Proper Man
\nI may need to amputate
\nA nose, or thumb, or a right hand;
\nTo do Your will,
\nI might have to carve out
\nA chamber from my heart
\nAnd leave the void
\nBleeding,
\nUnbandaged;
\nIf this Your will \u2014
\nYour will be done.<\/p>\n

And if Your will
\nSometimes demands
\nI pluck out an eye
\nSo as not to look;
\nOr slash off my tongue
\nSo as not to speak;
\nIf this Your will \u2014
\nYour will be done.<\/p>\n

And if, in Your eyes,
\nI stand too tall,
\nA rebellious giant full of pride \u2014
\nDwarf me;
\nChop off my legs
\nFrom sole to knee;
\nI\u2019ll fit into the narrow dark closet
\nYour decrees have fashioned
\nFor me to lie in;
\nLame and limping, I\u2019ll creep out
\nFrom time to time
\nTo bow before You;
\nIf this Your will \u2014
\nYour will be done.<\/p>\n

And should I seek
\nTo sing Your praise,
\nBut You decide
\nNo bass,
\nNot even baritone;
\nI\u2019ll throw away my voice
\nAnd sing falsetto;
\nIf this Your will \u2014
\nYour will be done.<\/p>\n

And after all I\u2019ve done,
\nAfter all I\u2019ve cut and stripped away
\nIs not enough,
\nAnd You desire
\nNo desire \u2014
\nI agree
\nTo emasculation
\nAnd castration;
\nIf this Your will \u2014
\nYour will be done.<\/p>\n

Deformed and maimed,
\nI will be
\nYour perfect me.
\nLet it be.
\nIf this Your will \u2014
\nYour will be done.<\/p>\n

I repeat: If this Your will \u2014
\nYour will be done.<\/p>\n

Yet \u2014
\nHave mercy;
\nFor I am but the vessel
