“But if his sacrifice of an offering is of a vow or a free-will offering . . .” (Leviticus 7:16)<\/span><\/p>\n

I<\/span><\/p>\n

I lost the violin my father bought;<\/span>
\n<\/span>I lost my sister’s silver flute; I lost<\/span>
\n<\/span>my brother’s golden horn, which I had tossed<\/span>
\n<\/span>aside; I lost the songs my mother taught.<\/span>
\n<\/span>I lost a galaxy of stars I thought<\/span>
\n<\/span>would always shine; I lost the winter’s frost<\/span>
\n<\/span>and summer’s heat; I lost a ring that cost<\/span>
\n<\/span>a thousand crowns; I lost the dreams I sought. <\/span><\/p>\n

You find me, God, as lost as night, without<\/span>
\n<\/span>a compass or the map that Moses drew,<\/span>
\n<\/span>without a sky above my head or ground<\/span>
\n<\/span>beneath my feet, without the strength to shout<\/span>
\n<\/span>for help in finding paths that lead to You,<\/span>
\n<\/span>a path like one that Abraham had found. <\/span><\/p>\n

II<\/span><\/p>\n

O God, You find the violin I lost;<\/span>
\n<\/span>You find the missing flute and horn; You find<\/span>
\n<\/span>my mother’s music-sheets with every kind<\/span>
\n<\/span>of song she sang; You find the dreams I tossed<\/span>
\n<\/span>away in tears; You find the ring that cost<\/span>
\n<\/span>me all my prayers, and stars that realigned<\/span>
\n<\/span>in constellations hidden from the mind;<\/span>
\n<\/span>You find the summer’s heat and winter’s frost. <\/span><\/p>\n

I lost You, so I thought, and life without<\/span>
\n<\/span>Your Presence meant the dreams I dreamt of You<\/span>
\n<\/span>were gone forever, buried in the ground.<\/span>
\n<\/span>But no! Although it’s true I cannot shout<\/span>
\n<\/span>Your name nor read the map that Moses drew<\/span>
