{"id":43977,"date":"2018-11-14T09:08:05","date_gmt":"2018-11-14T07:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/?p=43977"},"modified":"2022-06-08T08:02:46","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T05:02:46","slug":"an-unhappy-ending","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/en\/an-unhappy-ending\/","title":{"rendered":"An Unhappy Ending?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":50634,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[281],"tags":[370],"acf":{"old_id":"43977","type":"no","iframe":"","writer":33859,"related_cahpter":"90","type_929":"2","show_author_image":false,"old_create_date":"","old_url":"","post_main_content":{"description":"Leaving some space between the Books","content":"<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We&#8217;ve travelled the book of Exodus for 40 chapters, growing from a nation of slaves, performing meaningless, menial labor for others, into a nation reaching the pinnacle of human creativity, each member of the nation freely choosing to dedicate the best they have to create a place to encounter God on earth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One is tempted to feel that we&#8217;ve worked so hard and come so far, we <\/span><b>deserve<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a happy ending, the realization of full spiritual redemption in the intimate encounter between God and the people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And it is precisely that dangerous sense of entitlement that the very subtle closing crisis of the book of Exodus comes to combat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God&#8217;s glory fills the Mishkan, true, but it does so in a way that leaves Moses no space to enter. The goal of God&#8217;s voice speaking to people from between the cherubs is left unrealized. That is, at least, until the opening word of the book of Vayikra &#8211; Leviticus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What happens in the space between? Rashi on the first verse of Vayikra explains that the gaps in the Torah text allow space for reflection. In the frustrating moment between books, a crucial lesson is taught. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The service of God isn&#8217;t about bending God to our will, and to our needs. It begins with the humble recognition that the distance between us and God is truly infinite, as Da Vinci embodied so memorably on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. It is only the grace of the infinite God, God&#8217;s call to us- &#8220;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vayikra&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, that can bridge that. And that call can be heard only when we are willing to shrink our egos, to leave any sense of entitlement aside, and to make our &#8216;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aleph<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216; small. It is only then that we will be ready to use this Mishkan we have built, and to understand the lessons of the sacrificial service.<\/span><\/p>\n","image":{"ID":61519,"id":61519,"title":"1kings2-the
