The metals have been tallied, the priests garbed, and the work inspected. The chapter ends: \u201cMoses saw all the work, and they did it \u2013 as the Lord commanded it, so they did. And Moses blessed them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This closely echoes the end of the Creation narrative in Genesis 1: \u201cAnd God saw all that He had made, and found it very good. \u2026 And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The divine act of creation ended on Shabbat. But the world was still raw. The human act of creation culminates here, with the construction of the Tabernacle. The raw materials of the world \u2013 the acacia wood, the goat hair, the precious metals, the stones \u2013 are forged into a composite home, a sacred dwelling. Once the Tabernacle was complete, this second great act of creation comes to an end.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the mandate to build the Tabernacle, God has handed off the job of creation to humankind, and in so doing shifts the focus from sacred time to sacred space. The last act of divine creation is the Sabbath; the climax here is the earthly resting place for the divine. When God\u2019s act of creation is described, what he completes and what he blesses is a fragment of time; when human creation is narrated, they create, complete, and give sanctity to a fragment of space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When sacred time and sacred space meet, such as on the Day of Atonement, the cosmos can be altered.
