“And Moses then called Bezalel and Oholiav, and every person who was wise of heart, whom the Lord had given wisdom in his heart \u2026.” (Exodus 36:2)<\/span><\/p>\n

Happy are Bezalel and Oholiav,<\/span><\/p>\n

The upright whose angles are always ninety degrees,<\/span><\/p>\n

Whose lines are always drawn by steel rulers,<\/span><\/p>\n

Whose perpendicular world, no matter how wide or high,<\/span><\/p>\n

Is always bound by clear-cut borders.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their “yes” is “yes,” their “no” is “no;”<\/span><\/p>\n

They do not overstep the boundary<\/span><\/p>\n

Between permitted and forbidden,<\/span><\/p>\n

Kosher and <\/span>treif<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

But what about us, circles<\/span><\/p>\n

Full of curves and arcs?<\/span><\/p>\n

Rolling this way and that,<\/span><\/p>\n

Back and forth, ebb and flow,<\/span><\/p>\n

Our angles are as fluid as water,<\/span><\/p>\n

Our lines as wavy as an ocean.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do we have a place<\/span><\/p>\n

In Your geometry,<\/span><\/p>\n

O Lord?<\/span><\/p>\n

Not only rectangles worship You \u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

Triangles kneel,<\/span><\/p>\n

Pentagons prostrate themselves,<\/span><\/p>\n

Hexagons bow.<\/span><\/p>\n

O Lord, God of the spirits of all forms,<\/span><\/p>\n

Is there room in Your Tabernacle<\/span><\/p>\n

For us as well?<\/span><\/p>\n

Surely in You<\/span><\/p>\n

Even parallel lines<\/span><\/p>\n
