Is Shabbat <\/i>a near-death experience?
\nEmerging from the long, dim tunnel of weekday routine,
\nBeings of light welcome me
\nAnd ask, \u201cDo you learn? \u00a0Do you love?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Shabbat<\/i>: a near-life experience.<\/p>\n

Is Shabbat<\/i> an encounter with a UFO?
\nSucked out of This World,
\nI hover above insight in an unknown World-To-Come:
\nPraying with different music, different light, different touch.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Shabbat<\/i>: an abduction by God.<\/p>\n

Is Shabbat<\/i> a time-travel machine?
\nSpiraling up a double helix of Time:
\nYesterday, tomorrow, both and neither,
\nI learn Torah with Rabbi Akiva, Rashi, and the Messiah.<\/p>\n

Shabbat<\/i>: God\u2019s present tense.<\/p>\n

Is Shabbat<\/i> a drug
\nAddictive like heroin, and hallucinatory like LSD?
\nI\u2019m hooked on Shabbat<\/i>, can\u2019t break the habit:
\nA man with a golden arm.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Shabbat<\/i>: inject or inhale, and visions of Paradise swirl.<\/p>\n

Is Shabbat<\/i> a mirage?
\nAn optical illusion playing tricks?
\nThe desert is real; the thirst is real; the caravan is real;
\nAnd the water?<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Shabbat<\/i>: cool drink after a six days\u2019 expedition across burnt sand.<\/p>\n

With no money and no television,
\nOnly prayer, song, study, family, and cholent<\/i>,
\n<\/i>Shabbat<\/i> is a Jacob\u2019s ladder:
\nAngels ascend and descend
\nIn me.<\/p>\n
