“And you shall sacrifice the bull before the Lord, at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. And you shall take of the bull’s blood and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger \u2026.” (Exodus 29:11-12)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve brought no oxen, cattle, sheep or goats
\nTo sacrifice to You; nor do I bring
\nChoice offerings of barley, wheat or oats
\nTo burn on altar-fire, while Levites sing.<\/p>\n

But this I\u2019ve brought for You, my God of Truth:
\nI sacrificed those former truths that might
\nHave been my guiding truths and ruled my youth,
\nMy still-warm afternoon, my dusk, my night.<\/p>\n

Perhaps my truth rings false, and all I say
\nIs wind; perhaps my thoughts are flimsy reeds
\nThat break when touched by wind at end of day;
\nPerhaps these broken reeds may pierce my deeds.<\/p>\n

But though my truth may still be flawed, before
\nYour Truth I bow and sacrifice in
