“<\/b>And you shall command the Children of Israel to bring you pure, pressed olive oil for the light, to kindle the <\/span>ner tamid<\/span><\/em>, the eternal flame.” (Exodus 27:20)<\/span><\/p>\n

As red
\n<\/span>As supernovas bursting, as red-giants exploding, \u00a0
\n<\/span>As eleven ruby stars in Joseph\u2019s dreams,
\n<\/span>Red is the Torah light; its beams
\n<\/span>Penetrate the cavern of chaos called the world
\n<\/span>To reveal structure:
\n<\/span>Stratified layers of meaning,
\n<\/span>Slowly dripping stalactites of insight,
\n<\/span>Stalagmites of understanding, ascending.<\/span><\/p>\n

As blue
\n<\/span>As Jerusalem\u2019s summer skies,
\n<\/span>As Joseph\u2019s entreating eyes,
\n<\/span>Blue is the light of Israel,<\/span><\/p>\n

Revealing in the depths of cavern-canyons
\nUnderground currents, flowing, converging,
\n<\/span>Fed from fathomless sources: Joseph\u2019s fathers, Joseph\u2019s mothers;
\n<\/span>Each drop \u2014 a child of Joseph and his brothers.
\n<\/span>A river of destiny cascades, turbulent,
\n<\/span>Towards a tranquil turquoise sea of redemption, unseen
\n<\/span>But not unforeseen.<\/span><\/p>\n

As yellow
\n<\/span>As Jerusalem\u2019s noontime sun,
\n<\/span>As eleven sheaves of wheat bowing to one,
\n<\/span>Yellow is the light of the Soul,
\n<\/span>Piercing like X-rays the skin of cavern walls
\n<\/span>To reveal ribs of God\u2019s concern,<\/span><\/p>\n

God\u2019s caress, contours of His care
\nSupporting, uplifting, embracing
\nThe anatomy of the cave.<\/p>\n

Oh God, grant us fire.
\n<\/span>In the dark chill of the cave, wrap us in warm fabric
\n<\/span>Woven from a coat of many colors.
\n<\/span>Let my left hand grasp a Torch,
\n<\/span>And my right, the prism of Faith, Joseph\u2019s prism,
\n<\/span>To transform and unify Red, Blue, Yellow,
\n<\/span>Into radiant illumination,
\n<\/span>Incandescent,
\n<\/span>Blazing,
