The ten standing stones pictured here were most recently examined during the joint HUC-JIR/Harvard Semitic Museum excavations at Gezer. The stones date to the late Middle Bronze Age (1650–1550) and may have been used in a covenant ceremony like the one described in Exodus 24. The use of standing stones in kinship and covenant rituals are also known from texts at the sites of Mari and Emar (both located in modern day Syria).

Illustration: BAR Jan/Feb 2015, courtesy of George Blumenthal

"1536x1536":"https://wp.929.org.il/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/exodus24_image.jpg","1536x1536-width":1253,"1536x1536-height":784,"2048x2048":"https://wp.929.org.il/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/exodus24_image.jpg","2048x2048-width":1253,"2048x2048-height":784
"":null
