When least expected,
\n<\/span>The manna
\n<\/span>Comes.
\n<\/span>Like a burst of lightning in a moonless desert night
\n<\/span>Suddenly
\n<\/span>Allowing you to see all at once in white
\n<\/span>The deep ravines and gaping canyons,
\n<\/span>The chiseled walls of protruding boulders,
\n<\/span>The strangely sculptured statues of mesas,
\n<\/span>The huge cliffs
\n<\/span>Surrounding you.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the manna comes,
\n<\/span>You taste
\n<\/span>(Instead of the dry rations of stale bread)
\n<\/span>The most exquisite varieties of ice-cream
\n<\/span>And chocolate-covered pastries
\n<\/span>Filled with whipped-cream.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the manna comes,
\n<\/span>You drink
\n<\/span>(Instead of a stingy, measured allowance of stagnant water)
\n<\/span>Bottles and gallons of fruit juices,
\n<\/span>From citrus to mango, from apricot to kiwi.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the manna comes,
\n<\/span>You smell
\n<\/span>The fragrance of incense
\n<\/span>Enwrapping and enveloping you,
\n<\/span>Drifting down from the mountains of myrrh
\n<\/span>And the hills of frankincense.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the manna comes,
\n<\/span>You see
\n<\/span>A black raven perched on a leafless bush
\n<\/span>Transform
\n<\/span>Into a phoenix
\n<\/span>Whose peacock-colored feathers dazzle,
\n<\/span>Unscathed
\n<\/span>By the halo of flames
\n<\/span>Blazing around her.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the manna comes,
\n<\/span>You hear
\n<\/span>The noise of traffic (honking horns, drivers\u2019 curses, coughing buses) fade away;
\n<\/span>Distant symphonies gradually grow louder and clearer
\n<\/span>As chariots of ivory draw near you,
\n<\/span>Their wheels turning
\n<\/span>Like gears inside a mother-of-pearl music-box,
\n<\/span>Creating crescendos you have never heard before:
\n<\/span>The music of chariots driven by hosts of angels.
\n<\/span>Or are these angels just notes of music \u2014
\n<\/span>Semibreves, crotchets, quavers
\n<\/span>Somehow come alive?<\/span><\/p>\n

And when the manna falls,
\n<\/span>God\u2019s fingertips
\n<\/span>Descend
\n<\/span>To touch you
