\u201cAaron spoke all the words which the Lord had said unto Moses, and performed the signs in the sight of the people. \u00a0And the people believed; when they heard that the Lord had remembered the children of Israel and that He had seen their affliction, they bowed and worshipped.\u201d (Exodus 4:30-31)<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wise Daughter:
\n<\/strong>When I leave Egypt, I\u2019ll take with me<\/span>
\n<\/span>The papyrus scroll of prayers our grandfather wrote<\/span>
\n<\/span>And from which we prayed, begging God<\/span>
\n<\/span>To take us back to the Old Country of milk and honey.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wicked Daughter:
\n<\/strong>When I leave Egypt, I\u2019ll take with me<\/span>
\n<\/span>The scars on my back<\/span>
\n<\/span>From the whip-lashes of Egyptian taskmasters;<\/span>
\n<\/span>And on my face, their spit.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Simple Daughter:
\n<\/strong>When I leave Egypt, I\u2019ll take with me<\/span>
\n<\/span>The dress of many colors my mother wove for me,<\/span>
\n<\/span>Which Egyptian guards ripped<\/span>
\n<\/span>When they raped me.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Mother:
\n<\/strong>When I leave Egypt, I\u2019ll take with me<\/span>
\n<\/span>A small bottle of the Nile\u2019s water<\/span>
\n<\/span>That contains the cry of my new-born son<\/span>
\n<\/span>Whom Egyptian soldiers drowned.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Daughter who does not know how to ask:
\n<\/strong>When I leave Egypt, I\u2019ll take with me<\/span>
\n<\/span>The plain doll of rags<\/span>
\n<\/span>My Egyptian friend gave me;<\/span>
\n<\/span>And hope. <\/span><\/p>\n
