This is how he survived. This is also how he became second in command to the king of Egypt. \u00a0Level-headed, calculating, immune to harm, impenetrable, restrained. Up until our moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suddenly, for the first time in his life \u201cJoseph could no longer control himself\u201d (Genesis 45:1). \u00a0When he removed all his attendants, he became stripped of all these constant protective layers. He pushed away the reality that he had adapted for himself. He no longer standing, no longer upright, no longer was he Joseph, the confident and calm, the unbreakable one, the one lacking for anything. \u00a0When he ordered everyone to withdraw (Genesis 45:6), he removed with the wave of a hand the accumulation of years of experience, as a man, and allowed himself to to be a child again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only when no one else was present (Genesis 45:6) could he break down, strip down to nothing. \u00a0The entryway to crying was opened.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHis sobs were so loud that the Egyptians could hear,\u201d (Genesis 45:2)- Joseph was loud, his voice, his true voice. \u00a0In a flurry of orders, commands, and even advice, his voice was never exposed until now. His weeping alone was brought out to the world. \u00a0Thus, he made himself known to his brothers. He got to know them and himself afresh.
