How about Chanah or Chanan? All these come from the root \u05d7-\u05e0-\u05e0, <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ch-n-n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cfavor or compassion.\u201d The word <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>chen<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">appears at the very end of chapter 6, where Noach <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">matza chen<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cfound favor\u201d in the eyes of God. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also appears often with<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> chesed<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (\u201cloving kindness,\u201d or \u201cgrace,\u201d discussed in this space in chapter 24).Indeed, there is a trio of divine gifts: <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chen ve-chesed ve-rachamim<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cfavor, loving kindness and mercy\u201d which appear frequently in prayers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The noun <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chen<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comes from the verb <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chanan<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cbless, show favor or compassion.\u201d In a different form, the verb <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lehitchanen<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> essentially means to pray, or ask for <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chen<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This can be done in the form of a prayer known as <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">techina<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (not to be confused with the sesame paste of the same name, but different root), which were often said by women in pre-modern Europe (Yiddish plural, <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">techines<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). There is also a prayer said most weekdays at the end of the morning service call <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tachanun<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God is described as <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rachum vechanun<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cmerciful and compassionate,\u201d in the list of the thirteen divine attributes (Ex. 34:6). A young Israeli seeing the Hebrew word \u05d7\u05e0\u05d5\u05df, though, will almost certainly think sooner of Greg Haffley than of God.
