Couldn\u2019t Lot have come to comfort his uncle, and help with the arrangements? Where for that matter are Abraham\u2019s friends, Aner, Eshkol, and Mamre? There is no explicit proof, but I would assume that they benefited greatly from their association with Abraham, so why not assist at this time of need? Where are the rest of the 318 men who went to war with him to rescue Lot? Where are the \u201csouls that he made in Haran?\u201d Where are the angels and even the Almighty? They made medical visits post-circumcision, but no appearances after Sarah suddenly dies?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps Abraham no longer has the entourage and is estranged from the son that he nearly killed, and the Egyptian wife and child that he exiled to the desert. \u00a0Perhaps they are all present, but Abraham feels compelled take care of each detail of his wife\u2019s burial himself. Is it guilt that motivates him? Sarah\u2019s death results from the near death of Isaac says the midrash, or does he just love his wife so deeply that he can\u2019t delegate to others?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Either way, Abraham the rescuer of the kidnapped, the defender of the wicked, the host with the open tent to all, the builder of altars to spread God\u2019s name is all alone. In Hebron, but without Sarah, all alone.
