{"id":36994,"date":"2018-08-06T11:41:26","date_gmt":"2018-08-06T08:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/?p=36994"},"modified":"2022-02-28T17:59:03","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T15:59:03","slug":"sodom-as-challenge-and-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/en\/sodom-as-challenge-and-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Sodom as Challenge and Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[281],"tags":[418,391],"acf":{"old_id":"36994","type":"no","iframe":"","writer":36843,"related_cahpter":"18","type_929":"2","show_author_image":false,"old_url":"","post_main_content":{"description":"The price of choosing to do acts of kindness is to pursue righteousness and live","content":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three angels inform Abraham and Sarah that \u201cI will return to you at the same season next year, and Sarah shall have a son\u201d (Genesis 18:14) and that \u201cAbraham is to become a great and populous nation and all the nations of the earth are to bless themselves by him\u201d (18:18), \u00a0These are also the angels who inform them that there is a Sodom and Gomorrah in the world, whose victims of abuse cry out, and whose judges pay no heed to these cries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These angelic messengers do not explain to Abraham the riddle of the connection between the news of Isaac&#8217;s birth and their outlook on Sodom. But God, higher than highest heights, weighs the question (18:17): &#8220;Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?&#8221; What is God going to do that Abraham does not know? God appoints him in his generation, and for all the generations following, throughout all of history, in opposition to all types of Sodoms wherever they may be, whether within himself and his people in the Promised Land, or anywhere in the world, where people have moral failings, as people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Shall I hide from Abraham&#8221; (Genesis 18:17) that the purpose I chose him for, to be father of many nations is &#8220;that he may instruct his children and his posterity to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is just and right,\u201d (Genesis 18:19) \u00a0and &#8220;if not, I will take note\u201d (18:21), God forbid. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shall I hide from him that the price of choosing to do acts of kindness is to pursue righteousness and live, or to be silent in the face of Sodom and become orphaned? \u00a0The angels were afraid to inform Abraham and Sarah of the gravity of this mission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The God on high could not hide it, and God\u2019s prophet Isaiah memorializes it again for generations (Isaiah 51:1-2): \u00a0\u201cListen to Me, you who pursue justice, You who seek the Lord&#8230;Look back to Abraham your father And to Sarah who brought you forth\u05e5\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you look to see before you the image of your ancestors who swore \u201cto do what is just and right\u201c (Genesis 18:19) let what your eyes see also be what your ears hear. \u201cListen to Me\u201d (Isaiah 51:1) personally, intimately, at all times. Perhaps this is the profound meaning of the words (Exodus 20:15) \u00a0&#8220;All the people saw the thunder,\u201d at Sinai.
