Six of those times it is followed by the word \u05d0\u05d7\u05e8\u05d9, <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">acharei<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cfollowing\u201d or \u201cafter,\u201d emphasizing that \u2018zera,\u2019\u2019 or seed, or what grows from the seed, is continuity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Zera\u2019<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">represents the next generation both for plants and for people. One of the six orders of the Mishnah (who knows six? \u00a0I know 6\u2026) is called <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zera\u2019im<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or \u201cseeds\u201d as it deals primarily with laws pertaining to agriculture. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus, a<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> zera\u2019<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is both what a farmer puts in the ground, and what Onan spilled on the ground (see Gen. 38 &#8211; giving us the English term \u201conanism\u201d, even though technically what he did is better labeled coitus interruptus), and what can grow from both types.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bringing forth new generations sounds like it should always have happy and optimistic connotations, but the act of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>zrei\u2019ah \/ hazra\u2019ah<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(planting\/insemination) can be a very apprehensive time, not knowing if everything will come to term. Psalm 126 expresses this well: \u201c\u05d4\u05d6\u05d5\u05e8\u05e2\u05d9\u05dd <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>hazor&#8217;im<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They who sow in tears, shall reap with songs of joy.
