Upon their return from Egypt, Abram and Lot parted and settled in the mountain and in the Plains of Jordan. Their parting raises questions about Abram&#8217;s maturity as a leader. Abram is unable to impose his authority and settle a quarrel between his shepherds and Lot\u2019s over their pasture rights. The result: the separation of forces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where is Abram&#8217;s leadership that will win over his people to fulfill the Divine commandment to establish a nation? \u00a0It seems that God recognizes what is missing. As things progress, God issues a commandment that is part of God\u2019s plan to train Abram:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Lift up your eyes\u2026.for I give all the land that you see to you and your offspring forever\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(14-15). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God guides him to look at the full scope of his mission in all its breadth: all of the land and well into the future. God goes beyond what anyone would expect and commands Abram: &#8220;Rise up and walk about the land&#8221; (13:17). A true leader must not remain hidden away \u00a0indoors. He is obliged to fully understand what is happening in an unmediated way and act to achieve his goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abram&#8217;s moral decision to save Lot, his success in enlisting allies, and his personal example in refusing to accept gifts attest to his development as a leader. Abram\u2019s \u00a0leadership in Canaan did not break forth all at once, but developed and matured over time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leadership training is of great importance in directing, developing and providing additional perspectives both to to burgeoning leaders, as well as to those who have already taken up the mantle of
