So I planned for the journey. I set times by the great lights of day and night (and by my computer screen) for study, kind of like God did in those marvelous creation stories we read last week (minus the computer screen).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>And then the flood came.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not a literal flood but rather a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>mabul<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of life. In the three years that followed, my wife and I welcomed our two children into the world. I graduated from rabbinical school. I started a new job, and amidst all those waves of life, my plans to read <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanach<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> each day were swept away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But here in this seventh chapter of Genesis, I find a tale of resilience. After six chapters of creating and forming, everything gets washed away. But we know that this isn\u2019t the end of the story. It seems to me that these chapters are, in their own way, following the rhythm of the Jewish week. Six chapters of doing and creating, and the seventh chapter washes away the bad parts of the previous six. Furthermore, we see in verses 4 and 10 that the flood comes on the seventh day after God speaks to Noah. While it never explicitly says so, perhaps this is another allusion to <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shabbat<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. When our plans get swept away, we can rest, refresh, and start again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My plans to keep up with the 929 Project were washed away by the flood of life last time. Now I know that with every flood comes an opportunity to rebuild and get back on track. <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mazal tov<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to us all on a full week of Tanach. Let\u2019s rest up and get ready to go forth (Yes, a <em>Lech Lecha<\/em> plug for chapter 12\u2026) in the days, weeks, months, and years to
