{"id":34824,"date":"2018-07-22T16:30:13","date_gmt":"2018-07-22T13:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/?p=34824"},"modified":"2022-02-12T23:31:39","modified_gmt":"2022-02-12T21:31:39","slug":"genesis-chapter-6-summary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/en\/genesis-chapter-6-summary\/","title":{"rendered":"Genesis Chapter 6 Summary"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[281],"tags":[],"acf":{"old_id":"34824","type":"no","iframe":"","writer":false,"related_cahpter":"6","type_929":"2","show_author_image":false,"old_url":"","post_main_content":{"description":"","content":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When God created humans in Chapter 1, He blessed them (or perhaps commanded them?) \u201cBe fertile and <\/span><b>increase<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, fill the earth\u201d (1:28). \u00a0In our chapter, this utterance comes to fruition but not exactly as God had planned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen humans began to <\/span><b>increase<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on earth and daughters were born to them\u201d (6:1). \u00a0These were not just daughters, apparently, but good ones, and not just good ones, but the type that divine beings found appealing, so much so that they took them as wives. This union between these beings &#8211; those from the upper world and those from the lower world &#8211; was not looked upon favorably, and God immediately said that even if your father is one of these divine beings, it is the mother who determines your status. In this case, the offspring will be mortal and live for \u00a0a maximum of 120 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People increase in number, but not only they increased, but so does evil: \u201cThe Lord saw how great was man\u2019s wickedness on earth\u201d (6:5). Evil grew to such an extent that God regrets the creation of humanity, and decides that everything has to be started all over again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How? By bringing the world back into a state of complete chaos (almost &#8230;) with a flood that will mix up again the upper and lower waters that were separated in creation. \u00a0And then? From the former world, God &#8220;preserves&#8221; Noah, who was a righteous man, so that he would be the &#8220;first man&#8221; in the new world. In the ark that Noah builds, he brings samples of every living creature. \u00a0In another two chapters they will emerge from the ark and begin the new world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Points to Ponder:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where did the giants come from? At least those of the Bible came from the strange union between the divine beings and the daughters of man! (Verse 5).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What did the animals do wrong to deserve destruction by the flood? Perhaps this also bothered the Bible, or just \u00a0the commentators who understood the words \u2026. \u201cfor all flesh had corrupted its ways on earth\u201d (verse 12) as implying also that somehow, the animal world was at fault, too, along with the human realm. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why Noah? Because he was a blameless righteous man! And it is worth clarifying, the Hebrew name Noah does not come from the word \u201crest,\u201d but from relief (5:29). And indeed Noah did not rest for a moment in our chapter.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Noah&#8217;s ark was shaped like a rectangular box, not a boat, as it is typically depicted (see verse 15 for more details).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to preserve life during the flood, Noah had to make sure there was food of all kinds for all kinds of creatures (verse 21) &#8211; not resting for a moment. Have we already said that?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
