chance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was set up to fail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who would not be wounded by God\u2019s arbitrary rejection and then (as the midrash suggests) sorely tempted by the beauty of a brother\u2019s wife?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indeed, the lure of sexuality does sit persistently at the door of humankind\u2019s consciousness, without which we would have no future. \u00a0Was that his fault?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did God provide an alternative route for him to curry Divine favor other than try harder\u2026? \u00a0Tough love seemed his only option.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cain\u2019s murderous rage erupted in a vacuum. \u00a0Only the third person to exist, no one had taught him the rigors of self-control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Could it be that Cain was crafted by Divine plan to teach mankind a harsh lesson before the grace of Mitzvot could guide any of us? <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indeed, perhaps Cain was the foil to make God\u2019s commandments so very necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For our education, he was the fall guy, the genesis of tragedy itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For as much as Abel\u2019s blood cries from his innocent grave, even more does Cain\u2019s bitter life weep as the first human reviled by man and God
