The light God calls \u201cday,\u201d and the dark God calls \u201cnight.\u201d The same Creator created both light and dark, as the prophet Isaiah states, \u201cHe fashions light and creates darkness, makes peace \u00a0and creates evil. I am the Lord who makes all these.\u201d One doesn\u2019t banish darkness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Light is not what the Tanakh asks of us. \u00a0The Tanakh demands of us the good, the moral, and the just. \u00a0The Tanakh seeks individuals who make a choice every single day. \u00a0The Tanakh is in search of individuals who grapple with difficulties and with evil and manage to overcome both.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the spirit of these days, I would emphasize that it\u2019s not choice that should worry us but the lack of valuable alternatives from which to choose. \u00a0We should never hesitate to choose. At the same time, we should remember, day in and day out, that choosing is a value-laden act that is dependent on the existence of clear and contrasting alternatives: \u00a0light and dark, good and evil, life and death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBehold, I have placed before you life and goodness, death and evil\u2026.life and death, I have placed before you.
